 The Church Music Ministry

 About me

My name is Jerry Allison and I currently reside in Goose Creek, SC.  I am married to a wonderful and talented wife named Laverne and have three great kids:  Colleen (15), Connor (5), and Carrie (< 1).  Our home church is Trident Baptist Church under the direction of Dr. Michael Haynes.  In this church we run the Patch the Pirate ministry and are active in the church's music ministry.  We also teach instrumental music lessons to several children.  One of the biggest joys I have is to teach Church Music in our church's Spanish College.  I am also the financial administrator as well as the assistant bus ministry director.

My background is one full of music experience.  My parents had me involved in music lessons at age 6 but I developed my core music knowledge while in junior high and high school.  During high school I was involved in band, becoming proficient in percussion instruments, and also played tuba in concert.  At age 15 I started directing my first church choir.

In 1981 I attended Tennessee Temple University and received extended training in music, resulting in becoming the assistant pep band director for two years and pep band director for one.  While at Highland Park Baptist Church, I sang in the church choir.  After graduation in 1984 I have directed three church choirs, performing many different cantatas.  I have also led congregational singing in these churches.

In the past few years I have become extremely concerned about music and its role in church as well as in personal lives.  I started doing research in this area with a completely open mind and this website is a result of that research.  I hope you find it a blessing or, at the very least, thought provoking.  This website is not complete and I will continue to add to it.

My wife and I have been asked by several churches to help their music ministry.  When we are able to do it, we are more than happy to help out.  While preaching is the cornerstone of a church service, the music in the service sets the tone and can determine who hears and who does not hear the message coming from the pastor.
